Ornament embellishments

Embellished ornaments with matching gift paper!

Although the photo above shows Christmas ornaments, this idea could be used for any holiday!  Perhaps you could find clear heart-shaped glass ornaments to use for Valentine's Day or a wedding anniversary?

Instead of just giving ornaments, add a creative twist to your gift with matching wrapper paper and greeting card.  Scan in a favorite photo and size it to fit into a clear glass ornament ball.  Print it out on inkjet transparency and cut it to fit into the clear glass ball.

Use the image to create a design on wrapping paper, too, for a hint at what’s inside the box.  For complete directions on making this clear glass ornament, go to Carol Duvall’s Holiday Workshop.

"Birthday party in a can"

Sometimes the best gift isn't a gift at all, but an event!  Think about throwing a surprise birthday party for a friend, and make all the decorations and party favors on your computer.

In our example above, we made items for a a first birthday party. However, the concept could be applied to a birthday for any year.

We scanned in a favorite photo of the birthday boy, then placed that photo on a primary background color scheme of yellow, red and blue.

That photo, the color scheme and the tagline  “Look out World! I’m 1 Year Old” was used on all party pieces, including party hats, buttons for the party attendees to wear, the centerpiece, posters for use around the party room, a mug filled with red, blue and yellow candies (the favors for attendees) and a time capsule, since each attendee was asked to bring something about the year to put in the timecapsule for later viewing.

We even reproduced the image on a t-shirt for the birthday boy using iron on transfer paper!
