Fiendish Food for that Halloween dinner or party
Put a little fun into that Halloween dinner or party with some of these downright delectable (or is that disgusting?) dishes!

Finger foods (or should they be called 'food fingers?')

Roll bread dough into long fingers and use a small bit of red sweet pepper for the fingernail.  Bake according to instructions on bread dough package.  Use salsa for the 'blood' dip.

Witches Brew Punch

Mix up a batch of lemonade from frozen concentrate or powdered mix.  Add a few drops of green food coloring to tint the punch. Added touch: drop a gummy worm in each compartment of an ice cube tray, fill with water and freeze.  Then add the ice cubes to the witches brew!

Eyeball Radishes

Peel radishes, leaving thin streaks of red skin on the sides (representing blood vessels). Scoop out a small hole in the center of each radish, then stuff a green olive into each hole.

Swamp Slime

Make lime green gelatin and orange gelatin in two separate bowls and let it set slightly.  Add both gelatins to a clear glass bowl and mix slightly to combine the colors. Add gummy bugs and worms, stir and refrigerate. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream on top (put a gummy worm in the whipped cream so it looks like it is crawling out of the gelatin.

Spider Treats

(we made this for my son's 'bug themed' birthday party and it was a hit!)

round 'Ritz' type crackers

peanut butter

cheese in a can

pretzel sticks

raisins

Spread one cracker with peanut butter or cheese.  Break pretzel sticks in half and place 8 half pretzel sticks on top of the peanut butter or cheese to resemble legs.  Spread peanut butter or cheese on another cracker and place it on top of the first (peanut butter/cheese side down).  Use a dab of peanut butter to hold the raisin 'eyes' in place on top of the second cracker.

Wormy applesauce

(Another treat from my son's birthday party)

Individual cups of green pear applesauce

Gummy candy worms

Open the individual cups of applesauce and place one or two worms inside, so it appears like they are crawling out of the applesauce.

Bug Punch

Ice cube trays

water

plastic bugs

12 oz orange juice concentrate, frozen

12 oz. white grape juice
64 oz 7-Up soda or other lemon/lime
1 pint sherbet, lemon or lime
green food coloring
Freeze plastic bugs in water in ice cube trays. Mix together orange juice concentrate, white grape juice, 7-Up, lemon or lime sherbet, and several drops of green food coloring in a punch bowl. Drop frozen ice cubes into punch.

Edible inchworms

Green grapes

pretzel sticks

carrot slivers

toothpick

Assemble three green grapes, using a pretzel stick to hold them together.  Using a toothpick, pierce two tiny holes on one grape at the end and insert two carrot slivers for the worm's antenna.

Witch's Hat

Keebler® fudge striped cookies,

Hershey® Kisses

A tube of orange decorator icing.

Turn cookies upside down so that the striped chocolate side is down.  Place a bit of frosting in the center of the cookie to hold the unwrapped Kiss candy. Pipe a little band and bow around the base of the Kiss. (Alternatively, you can use an orange fruit roll, cut in a long strip, for the band of the hat.)
